Criminal organizations use UAS for sophisticated logistics and intimidation. In Brazil, drones are used for "Rip-on / Rip-off" scams to intervene in containers, while in Mexico, they are used to transport narcotics between land and ships and to intimidate port personnel by filming them and their families. Across the region, drones also serve as tools for pre-reconnaissance, mapping port infrastructure to detect blind spots in traditional security surveillance. Counter-UAS efforts combine non-kinetic technology with aggressive legislative reforms.
