Academic Background

Note: Research Affiliate candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher and some academic background or work experience in international relations, political science, national security, cyber, research, or data analysis with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Membership Roles Description and Details:

Florida International University’s Jack D. Gordan Institute of Public Policy is accepting nominations for Research Affiliates to participate in the collaborative work, data and information sharing and creation of research products relating to security challenges in the Western Hemisphere. The qualified Research Affiliates will be granted access to FIU Security Research Hub (SRH) collaborative environment, where data and information on 12 different security themes, along with various analytical, visualization tools, and cloud computing environments are made available for a group of collaborators.

Research Affiliates have access to:

  • SRH digital commons repository, data portal and dashboards
  • SRH collaborative environment
  • FIU library, data resources, email, and other university communication platforms
  • Point-to-point communication with fellow affiliates
  • Training, education, and workshops

Research Affiliates will be expected to:

  • Attend SRH organized workshops, research group discussions, and affiliate events
  • Produce annual analytic papers that are between 5-7 pages in length or produce textual material on a security challenge (e.g., infographics, data products)
  • Comment/engage with other affiliates on the SRH website monthly
  • Peer review at least 1 analytic paper or textual material from fellow affiliates every 3 months
