How Doing Justice to Ukraine Can Help Win the Battle for the Future of Nuclear Security

October 4, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

October 4, 2023 | 10:00 am-11:00 am | Online

Russia’s occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has created unprecedented risks in an era of rising geopolitical tensions. A lack of international cooperation and uncertainty about nuclear safety and security during conflict has produced a new range of questions about the nuclear risk reduction challenges and nuclear security obstacles that will be seen in the future. Deterring attacks against nuclear facilities during armed conflict is an essential component of reducing risk and supporting nuclear industry, but questions about what lies ahead remain.

Join Valeriia Hesse, author of the policy memo, “How Doing Justice to Ukraine Can Help Win the Battle for the Future of Nuclear Security” and the International Nuclear Security Forum for a virtual discussion on Ukraine’s nuclear security status and her thoughts on how the international nuclear security system must avoid nuclear disaster at ZNPP, end the Russian occupation of the plant, and prevent similar high-risk events from taking place in the future.

Featured Speaker

Valeriia Hesse, Non-Resident Fellow at the Odesa Centre for Nonproliferation

Moderator

Christina McAllister, Director, International Nuclear Security Forum
